India seeks subs and shuffles Sukhois to counter China
India’s top naval leader has said that seven to eight Chinese warships, including submarines, are present in the Indian Ocean at any one time. To elevate its response to this threat, the Indian MoD is making important advances on both submarine and fighter fronts to better monitor the Indian Ocean region.
The government took the Project 75(I) submarine programme a step forward by downselecting five foreign strategic partners and two domestic constructors on 21 January. This project will give the Indian Navy (IN) six new submarines equipped with air-independent propulsion with a budget of more than $6.3 billion.
